Lara Varjabedian
A little background on our Founder…
Having been exposed to a multicultural background, I identify myself like many of us as a global citizen. My professional background is an exciting combination of the Corporate and Startup worlds. Over the years I built a network of wonderful people that I crossed paths with. A network that I – with efforts – nurtured over the years. As a co-founder of UBQT, I am hoping we could help people engage more efficiently and spontaneously with their network and nurture the unique network they have built over the years, across the cities they had the chance to experience.
What inspired your venture? Any eureka moments?
What inspired our venture is our story with my Co-founder Jonathan L. Hasson. How can you be living in the same city of someone you know for decades, without knowing it?
Can you highlight a memorable success story or milestone for your company?
Probably the first USD25K ticket hitting our account from the most incredible Angel before even signing the SAFE. It made me feel not only that we believe in us but that we trust us.
What indulgence in Dubai would you choose for a memorable experience?
The “guest only” infinity pool at the Royal Atlantis. This is a real treat. In a much more affordable and different way, the sunrise in the desert.
Where is home?
Home is the place I build when I decide to buy/move my furniture, make new friends and host the people I love from all over the world.
What was your first flat like?
It was above a credit agency, on a corner building. For that reason the shape of my flat was quite unique, with a high ceiling, in a cool/upcoming area of Brussels. I chose the flat because I liked the vibes of the place and the vibes of the landlord who was very friendly. That flat remains the start of my journey as an independent woman as I had to cut the umbilical cord with my loving parents and start to pay my own - less loving - bills.
What’s the most unusual talent or skill you possess?
I am a people person and have this ease to connect with everyone and anyone, anywhere.
If you had a mascot what would it be and why?
A bird. Given how birds surround me all the time, anywhere I go, I am pretty sure I was one in another life! My grandfather had a passion for birds, they might feel it through me. It also fits my personality, free and travelling the world with no borders.
Best food you’ve had in Dubai?
Very difficult to choose one place but my most iconic choices are: the SAKURA EBI at 3fils, the San Sebastian cheesecake at Heal, the artichoke salad at Loren, the shrimp fatteh at Ibn al Bahar, the tuna salad at Comptoir 102, the crispy salmon at Clap, the pan con tomate at Tagomago, any soufflé at l’atelier Joel Robuchon, the seafood rice at Lana Lusa, the omelette Pierre Gagnaire at Choix Patisserie and the most incredible brioche of the world at Aux merveilleux de Fred.
How do you balance work and life as an entrepreneur?
Since we launched, work-life balance is challenging as I think of UBQT from the moment I open my eyes in the morning (after having dreamt about it all night) till the moment I close them again. We are early-stage and although we have support from incredible people, I am with my co-founder doing everything and anything. However, I would feel my life unbalanced if I stopped seeing the people I love and appreciate. So simply by meeting sometimes my close professional network for lunch during the week or meeting my friends for fun nights out during the weekend is enough to feel that my life is balanced.
What city in the world appeals to you most?
So many places I love in the world, I got the chance to live in iconic cities at their best time. Hong-Kong was one of them. My connection with the city was very special. It is like having your own love story with the soul of the city, it remained very close to my heart and never faded. I have always been a fan of Hong-Kong and cherish the memories of my time spent there, although today it is Dubai that makes me the happiest.
If you could master any new skill instantly, what would it be?
Become a coder. If I could code, decode, recode, I could then build, unbuild, rebuild myself the perfect product for UBQT. ☺

Golden Visa: Good news on the visa front. The UAE government has removed the AED1 million ($272,000) minimum down payment requirement for real estate investments, marking a significant change in the Golden Visa program. Now, investors can qualify for a 10-year residency visa by owning a property worth AED2 million ($545,000) or more, regardless of the down payment amount or property status. This offers a golden opportunity for investors to tap into the thriving UAE property market and secure long-term residency. Eligibility for the Golden Visa requires confirmation of property ownership from the land department and the option to acquire property through approved local banks.
